I obviously don't watch a lot of violent movies anymore....
I was playing poker tonight (doing well, ty) and my wife's cousin, Pam, who is in town started watching The Kingdom. I was trying to ignore it, but got a little into it as I played. Right as I finished playing my last tourney for the night, the climatic scene in the movie started, which if you haven't seen it, is extremely tense, extremely bloody, and very realistic.

I was watching, transfixed by the action, when Pam said, "I'm tired I'm going to bed. Do you have any allergy medicine?" This meant I had to get up and find it. In doing so I finally realized how taken by the action I was. I tried to open up the medicine cabinet and found my heart racing and hands shaking. I'm still a little jumpy after 15 minutes. I had to go in and check on my sleeping son, just because that's what parents do.

I need to go watch something very sweet and benign, like tranquil videos of waterfalls or something. Jeeesh.

Don't watch Blood Diamond then. Some very disturbing and graphic scenes. Good movie that could have been great if they had resisted the urge to put in a little too much Ramboesque action. I keep meaning to do a post about it, because it was a fascinating subject.

Kingdom is one of the few movies that I really enjoyed, but can not watch again.

From the point of the car attack on, I actually was forgetting to breathe because it was just SO intense. And movies never do that to me.

And the scariest moment of the whole movie IMO - the last scene with the Saudi kid.

Oops - posted too fast.

Peter Berg really has the perfect style for that movie - if you've watched Friday Night Lights (the show), you've seen it. It's all just letting actors do their thing, and alot of hand-held, which really gets you that inside-the-action feeling.

agreed on both counts. I thought the acting was very good as was the story. The car attack was right when I finished playing. I too was riveted.

Watch the beginning - first 10-15 minutes.....right up through when Jamie Foxx and co arrive in Saudi Arabia.

It's not pleasant, but worth it.

You seem to be in some sort of time warp on Yahoo IM. That or you're not at the computer. Given the weird flood of messages I got, I'm going with time warp. Log on AIM?
